  • Cox a standout rookie DB

An entry in Ryan's notebook by Ryan Robinson, Today, 02:52 PM

Jaguars general manager Gene Smith took the podium to answer questions minutes after trading with New England to move up and select Derek Cox in the third round of the 2009 draft. Cox, a three-year starter at William & Mary, was relatively unknown to people outside the scouting world after not receiving an invite to the combine. Some experts didn't have him rated in the top 100 among cornerbacks. "You get a guy a year early, a guy that you feel is second-round talent," Smith said in April. "That's why you do it. Certainly when you're given a pick for next year you have to feel that this guy has second-round type talent. So from that standpoint we felt very comfortable with it. We get a player a year early and again a player that has done it on the field and he's done it off the field." Cox did not disappoint, leading the team with four interceptions and seven passes defensed. He tied for second among all rookies in interceptions including one against Peyton Manning in his... • Ticketholders at the Pro Bowl ...

    An entry in jaguars.com Blog by jaguars.com, Feb 1 2010, 02:12 PM

The following is a blog from Jaguars season-ticket holder Aaron Resnick. Aaron was one of two season ticket holders chosen to attend the Pro Bowl with Maurice Jones-Drew. Yesterday was game day and my dad and I had another awesome experience. In the morning we visited South Beach.  ESPN and the NFL Network had their temporary stages set up but not much was going on then.  We walked around and took a few pictures before heading back to Ft. Lauderdale. At the player hotel I ended up meeting Jared Allen, Logan Mankins, La'Ron McClain, Josh Cribbs, Johnny Knox and Mike Jenkins. Jenkins and I talked about USF as that is one of the colleges I am considering and he is the school's first ever representative at the Pro Bowl.  The player busses left around 4:30 PM and we headed to the stadium as well. It is a good thing we headed out early as the traffic around the stadium for parking was terrible. Eventually we along with many others parked at a dog track that... Read more...

  • Senior Bowl Pregame

An entry in The ROAR by The ROAR, Jan 31 2010, 05:13 PM

As the official Senior Bowl cheerleaders, we kicked off the pregame show with a high energy dance routine and kickline. After pregame, we went to our four corners of the field to start cheering for the game. We always had something to cheer for since we were supporting both teams. The fans were cheering the entire game too! It was a great new experience for us and we look forward to the opportunity to cheer at the Senior Bowl again in the future. Read more...

  • It is hard to believe that our home games are over for the 2009 season. The season flew by with our last three home games in 12 days. A significant improvement in our home record of 5-3 this year, versus 2-6 last year, will hopefully help our season ticket renewals. Although the outcome of the last two games were not what we wanted, we had over 60,000 tickets distributed and very few no-shows for each game. In fact, for the Colts game our no-show rate was 3.2%, the lowest since we started tracking no shows in 2005. The fans were great for both games with less than 35 ejections and 10 arrests in each game, and only a few being alcohol related. JMS felt like the old days the night of the Colts game in no small part due to the effort of Touchdown Jacksonville. We now have to carry over that momentum in ticket sales and game day atmosphere into 2010. I am often asked what we do in the off season when there are no football games going on. I will take some time off to go skiing, but the... Read more...

  • While the vision of a Bye Week for most players, staff and fans is one of rest and relaxation, there is a dark side of football that few ever see. Deep under the teal seats of the stadium is the Athletic Training Room where the injured players spend a good part of the Bye weekend.  The healthy players are off visiting friend and family while the players with injuries have work to do.  It's not a fun weekend for the players that have mandatory rehab or for the athletic trainers who are still working to help these players.  With that being said, this is a very important weekend for the Jags because this is a weekend where we can get the necessary work to make our team better. I learned a long time ago as a teenager in Massachusetts working at a state forest cleaning bathrooms and picking up trash for the summer that with everything in life, there is always going to be someone working hard behind the scenes.  Whether it is the food on the plate or the car you... • Jaguars offensive tackle Tony Pashos and several of his teammates used their "off day" on Monday to spread some holiday cheer to several children in the area. Pashos joined 10 of his teammates for a special visit to Wolfson Children's Hospital to hand out gifts for the more than 75 children that won't be spending the holidays at home. Following the hospital visit, Pashos hosted 12 children from Guardian Ad Litem in Jacksonville at Applebee's in St. John's Town Center for dinner, and then he took the group on a shopping spree at Dick's Sporting Goods. The event was one of the monthly outings Pashos hosts with the Pashos Pals group he started in 2007.
