  • Cool under pressure

An entry in Ryan's notebook by Ryan Robinson, Today, 11:21 AM

Cool under pressure The Jaguars have been involved in an NFL-high four games (3-1 record) decided by three points or less. Four of the Jaguars' five wins have been decided by seven points or less including the last three by three points or less. Kicker Josh Scobee, who has six career game-winning field goals, leads the NFL with two this season. He hit a 36-yarder in overtime in week six to beat St. Louis and connected from 21 yards last Sunday at the Jets as time expired.   Holt knows Buffalo quarterback well Jaguars wide receiver Torry Holt and Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick spent two seasons together in St. Louis where Fitzpatrick was a seventh-round pick of the Rams in 2005. After being inactive his first 10 games as a rookie, the former Harvard quarterback was pressed into duty on November 27 at Houston when starter Jamie Martin went down with an injury. Holt quickly became a favorite target for Fitzpatrick. Holt finished with 10... Read more...

  • Jags vs. Jets

An entry in Inside the Business by Bill Prescott, Nov 18 2009, 08:45 AM

I had the opportunity to attend the Jets game this past weekend in person to watch our exciting victory. I did not watch the game from a suite or the press box, but was in the upper deck of Giants Stadium with my sister and her family, and about 40 other Jags fans. This was about the fourth Jaguars vs. Jets game at the Meadowlands that I have viewed from that section of the stadium. An incident at a Jets game in 2007 (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/20/sports/football/20fans.html?_r=1&ref=football) prompted in large part the NFL's effort in 2008 for each team to adopt a Fan Code of Conduct. At this Sunday's game there was some good natured banter between the Jets and Jaguars fans in our section, but nothing that got out of control. I must tell you that I noticed a significant improvement in fan behavior at this Jets game compared to prior years, and attribute it to the Fan Code of Conduct initiated in 2008. I think the Commissioner was correct in making this a point of... Read more...

  • While the vision of a Bye Week for most players, staff and fans is one of rest and relaxation, there is a dark side of football that few ever see. Deep under the teal seats of the stadium is the Athletic Training Room where the injured players spend a good part of the Bye weekend.  The healthy players are off visiting friend and family while the players with injuries have work to do.  It's not a fun weekend for the players that have mandatory rehab or for the athletic trainers who are still working to help these players.  With that being said, this is a very important weekend for the Jags because this is a weekend where we can get the necessary work to make our team better. I learned a long time ago as a teenager in Massachusetts working at a state forest cleaning bathrooms and picking up trash for the summer that with everything in life, there is always going to be someone working hard behind the scenes.  Whether it is the food on the plate or the car you... • Jaguars offensive tackle Tony Pashos and several of his teammates used their "off day" on Monday to spread some holiday cheer to several children in the area. Pashos joined 10 of his teammates for a special visit to Wolfson Children's Hospital to hand out gifts for the more than 75 children that won't be spending the holidays at home. Following the hospital visit, Pashos hosted 12 children from Guardian Ad Litem in Jacksonville at Applebee's in St. John's Town Center for dinner, and then he took the group on a shopping spree at Dick's Sporting Goods. The event was one of the monthly outings Pashos hosts with the Pashos Pals group he started in 2007.
