@AdamSchefter: Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew will not attend the Jaguars mandatory minicamp that begins today. He is seeking a new contract.

Looks like we'll be drafting a RB early next year.

Knile Davis!
I can see him as a Darren Sproles type back, but nothing more. JagFanatic24 on Richardson

Here is an article from PFT about him holding out as well.

Maurice Jones-Drew will skip Jaguars’ mandatory minicamp

Now I understand why people will be upset over this. I personally understand why he is doing it but I get other people being angry.

If true, it is not good . Growing a little tired of his attitude. He signed the existing contract and was happy at the time, now it comes off as greed.

Guess you do what you think you need to do.

I still think he should show up and let his play earn a new contract next year.

Probably to out of shape to show up. He tends to blow up during the off season.

What he is doing isn't "greedy" so some of y'all need to get off your horse. The NFL is a year to year contract scenario for a lot of these guys, and many only have a few opportunities to get their pay days before they are out of the league. As one of the league's top performers in a form of entertainment that earns billions a year he is certainly not greedy for wanting fair market value.

With that being said I am a proponent to the Jags letting him holdout until he is finally ready to come in and work. Let him rack up fines. He would be ready to play tomorrow.

Why would he be "too out of shape"? He has never come to OTA's and voluntary training camp here. He was in the best shape of his life after last off season. You're just speculating. I understand why MJD is doing this. He doesn't have much left, is the best RB in the game, and knows it. He wants to make as much as he possibly can before its all gone.

I love MJD and all, but I get so tired of all of these players that sign contracts and decide they are worth more in the middle of that deal. He's the one that signed the five year deal. He should honor it.

Maurice needs to be here. With the new coaching staff and some of the new players on the offensive side of the ball, and especially with a new offense being installed, he needs time to catch up.

If he blows out his knee the first day of camp the team is not required to honor the rest of his contract. No one calls the owner greedy. A player has 2 maybe 3 chances, if he is lucky, to get a decent paycheck in the NFL before his career is over. Anyone here that calls MJD greedy is hypocritical because I know that you wouldn't turn down an opportunity to make 8 million a year if you are currently only making 4.

Yes, but the flip side of the coin is that the teams do the same thing. Teams sign contracts with guys and then cut them in the middle of the contract. So, when you say "I get so tired of all of these players that sign contracts and decide they are worth more in the middle of that deal..." are you also tired of teams that sign contracts and then cut the player in the middle of the deal?

I understand why he's doing it but I'm slightly disappointed as a fan if he's not going to show up.

I have a feeling this is all Gene Smith's fault. Just fire him and use that extra money to pay Mojo.

Does Khan have any pull in this? It seems like he has been pretty solid at diffusing situations quietly and efficiently. Does anybody know if he's said anything on the matter?

its not greedy, but he needs to be here... the nfl isn't a year to year contract scenario for MJD, sorry he'll be okay. he's got 2 years left on his contract, he needs to be here now.. i understand he's not being payed top 10 salary, but holding out of preseason camp is not what a captain does...
