I'm impressed you're playing such close attention to my every post. I'm not sure who you're saying I forgot about. There are so many new players, but I understand that's no excuse. As for AJ Barnes, obviously I meant TJ Barnes. And forgive me for not knowing the precise role that Roy Miller played as a DT with the Bucs. The gall of me to think that he could possibly start as the 3-tech DT alongside Love being the NT. It looks like Miller is just going to have to win the start at NT or settle for a backup gig because cleary, as Demetrius points out, Miller isn't good enough for the starting 3-tech role. -

I'm starting to see the scheme a little more. Basically you have your three sides with a Will, Mike and Sam backer, but their roles are slightly different. Because the scheme has a LEO up front, the main blitzing LB is the SAM. The SAM has to be a physical LB who is great vs the run, can sift through traffic well, and get can into the backfield to cause havoc and sacks. They also have to cover the TE and RB specifically. With all of this in mind, it's a perfect spot for Will Allen, and for Julian Stanford behind him.
The Mike's role is largely the same, but the Will has less blitz and more cover responsibilities making him more of a cover back. I imagine he typically take on slot WRs, #2 TEs and FBs in coverage with some additional zone or double team responsibilities vs outside WRs, and may also spy on the QB. Geno Hayes is a perfect Will in this system since he has to be able to hold his gap versus the run but he's no longer the primary run stuffing OLB. In this role with only weakside run gap responsibility and without having to blitz, considering Geno's never recorded a sack, Geno might just thrive as a starting Will "cover" LB. -

It's tough to know if they'll carry a 10th DL spot to have a third NT, so there's could be some serious competition there. Pendleton would also like a shot at a roster spot there. Maybe they could stash AJ on the Practice Squad and let Miller and Love duke it out for the start at NT with the other his backup.
Sen-Derrick probably does start at DT then, and this may in turn open up a spot for D'Anthony Smith to prove he can stay healthy, or for Deaderick who is actually listed at DE on the roster. This in turn makes me think Deaderick is battling Lane and Mincey for the backup role behind Alualu. I still see Lane winning the spot.
Abry Jones is another wild card here. He played both DE and DT. He's a huge guy making you think NT, but he played mostly 3-tech, 4-tech and 5-tech in college. Considering the numbers, he's probably in mix for a backup 3-tech DT role. -
